How to Tell if Pumpkin’s Fresh
For savory recipes, choose bright-colored sugar pumpkins that are firm and heavy for their size. When it comes to soup and dessert recipes, opt for puree. Look for pure pumpkin, as opposed to spiced pumpkin pie purees.

How to Pair Pumpkin
Roast pumpkin with other , like carrots and beets. Or partner it with black beans and seasonal spices to create a hearty harvest soup. Add festive flavor to breads, cakes and pies with pumpkin puree. And sprinkle pumpkin seeds, also called pepitas, on soups and salads.

How to Roast Pumpkin Seeds
Remove seeds from pumpkin, rinse and let dry. Toss with 2 tablespoons cooking oil and 1 tablespoon of your favorite spices (we love a blend of cinnamon and cumin), then spread on a baking sheet. Bake at 350 F for 30 minutes until crisp and lightly browned, tossing occasionally.
