Homemade Hot Fudge

Our 5-minute hot fudge recipe is a delicious indulgence any day of the week.

By: Elizabeth Stark

Sometimes all it takes to make a simple dessert really stand out is a drizzle of homemade hot fudge! And with its rich, velvety texture, nothing beats the flavor of homemade. Best of all, homemade hot fudge comes together in minutes, meaning you’ll have time to add that extra special touch even on the busiest nights.

Tip: To impart the best chocolate flavor, look for a high cocoa content chocolate. Because chocolate chips are made with fillers to help keep their shape, skip the chips and go with baking chocolate in bar form instead.

Easy Homemade Hot Fudge Sauce

2 cups
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 5 minutes, plus 20 minutes to cool
Cost: $
Difficulty: Easy

6 ounces chopped bittersweet chocolate, divided
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup corn syrup
3 tablespoons packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
Pinch of sea salt
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  1. Set a heavy bottomed, non-reactive saucepan over medium heat
  2. Add 3 ounces chocolate, the heavy cream, corn syrup and brown sugar — when mixture is melted and smooth, whisk in the cocoa
  3. Remove from heat, and immediately stir in the remaining 3 ounces chocolate and 2 tablespoons butter, stirring until smooth
  4. Finally, stir in the vanilla extract
  5. Cool for 20-30 minutes, and then drizzle over your favorite ice cream
  6. Hot fudge can be kept in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 1 week — to reheat, microwave fudge on low for 10-20 seconds

Tip: Get creative and try a chocolaty drizzle on everything from cookies to cupcakes to lattes.
