Celebrate springtime with these 3 adorable repurposed egg carton crafts.

By: Liz Elliott

Get artistic this spring and create chicks, bunnies and caterpillars from recycled egg cartons. Use paint, googly eyes and construction paper to really bring the critters to life. Fill them with candy eggs or jellybeans.

1. Egg Carton Chicks

Materials

Empty egg carton
Orange construction paper
Black markers
Yellow paint
Scissors
Glue
Masking tape
Paintbrushes

Instructions

  1. Cut the egg carton apart so all the cups are individual
  2. Take two carton cups and place one on top of the other, with the empty sides facing each other
  3. Place tape along one edge like a hinge, so the cups are now attached but can open and close
  4. Paint both the insides and outsides of the carton cups yellow, then let air-dry
  5. Use the construction paper to cut out little beak and feet shapes. Attach the feet and beak with glue to the carton cups
  6. Use the black marker to draw eyes

2. Egg Carton Bunnies

Materials
Empty egg carton
Pink and white construction paper
Googly eyes
Black markers
White paint
Scissors

Paintbrushes

Instructions

  1. Cut the egg carton apart so all the cups are individual
  2. Take two carton cups and place one on top of the other, with the empty sides facing each other
  3. Place tape along one edge like a hinge, so the cups are now attached but can open and close
  4. Paint both the insides and outsides of the carton cups white, then let air-dry.
  5. Use the construction paper to cut out bunny ears and feet from the white construction paper
  6. Cut out pink ovals and glue them to the inside of the ear shapes
  7. Attach the feet, ears and googly eyes to the carton cups with glue
  8. Use the black marker to draw a mouth, nose and whiskers

Tip: Add some extra spring flair by filling your bunnies with pink candy and setting them on “grass” created by shredding green paper.

3. Crafty Caterpillars

Empty egg carton
Colored pipe cleaners
Googly eyes
Assorted markers
Assorted paints
Scissors
Glue
Masking Tape
Paintbrushes
Glitter glue (optional)
Foam stickers (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the egg carton apart so that all the cups are individual
  2. Place three or more carton cups end to end, with the empty side facing down, then tape them together
  3. Paint each cup a different color. Let air-dry
  4. Cut pipe cleaners into short lengths and punch holes into the individual cartons, so kids can insert them as legs and antennas
  5. Draw a smile with paintbrush

Tip: Use glitter glue and foam stickers to let the kids get even more creative with their caterpillars.
