Take burgers to a delicious new level by stuffing them with tasty ingredients.



Choosing the Meat

  • Use an 80/20 or 85/15 blend of ground beef for best results. Leaner meats can turn out drier and crumbly.
  • Make turkey burgers for a leaner option. Handle patties carefully and only flip once while cooking to lessen the chance of breakage.
  • Stuff homemade vegetarian burgers for a different route — handle them carefully, as they break easily. Cook them on the stovetop or oven instead of the grill to help keep the stuffing inside.

Stuffing Tips

  • Cook raw vegetables first because they won't have time to cook inside of the burger, plus they release water as they cook, which if placed inside the raw burger, can cause it to fall apart.
  • Add ingredients like pickles, cooked bacon, tart relish, homemade salsa or creamy guacamole directly without further preparation.
  • Shred, crumble or cut cheese into small pieces, depending on the variety.

7 Filling Suggestions
Use 2-3 tablespoons of filling for each burger. Try these filling combinations to make a gourmet grill-out:

  1. Sautéed onions and mushrooms with shredded pepper Jack cheese

  1. Chopped jalapeno peppers with sharp cheddar cheese
  2. Crispy cooked and crumbled bacon and soft American cheese
  3. Chopped tomatoes, guacamole and queso fresco*
  4. Fresh pineapple chunks and Havarti cheese
  5. Crisply cooked turkey bacon and goat cheese
  6. Cucumber, tomato and bell pepper relish with Feta cheese

Tip: Substitute goat or ricotta cheese for similar taste and texture.

Making the Patties

  1. Use 1/3 pound of meat for each burger, splitting into two equal portions
  2. Form each piece into a ball, then flatten into a patty
  3. Indent the center of one of the patties and place 2-3 tablespoons of filling into it
  4. Place second patty on top and press edges together to seal

Grilling the Burgers

  1. Preheat grill to medium-high
  2. Cook undisturbed for 6-8 minutes, or until edges begin to brown
  3. Flip and continue cooking another 5-8 minutes, or until they reach desired doneness

Baking Tip: No grill? No problem! Bake on a rack in a roasting pan (so fat can drain) at 375 F for 25-30 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 165 F.

Tip: Create delicious side items like jazzed-up French fries, tater tots, gooey mac 'n' cheese or fresh garden orzo salad to complement your burger creations.
