Wrapping with Friends: Tips for Hosting a Wrapping Party

Wrapping with Friends: Tips for Hosting a Wrapping Party

Make the most of wrapping gifts this year with friends, food and fun.

If you’re like many moms, getting to the big day in late December is like running a marathon. You’ve looked and shopped and shopped some more, but the end is always a sprint of wrapping to pull it all together.

This year, instead of indulging in more sleepless nights of wrapping, get your friends together for a little food and fun while you tackle this holiday chore. Because we know, no one wants to wrap alone.

Set a Date

Try to get your plan together in early to mid-December – because we all know how the schedule fills up in December!

To get your ducks in a row ahead of time, think about the supplies you have and what you need. Maybe grabbing something extra glittery will inspire your friends as they wrap the night away.

  • Think of ribbon alternatives, like yarn, sparkly garlands and colored twine
  • Display a box of holiday-themed odds and ends to add onto each package, like mini ornaments, handmade snowflakes, holiday stickers, cookie cutters and silvery jingle bells
  • Recycle cute bags for odd-shaped gifts or reuse a gorgeous bow from last year
  • Serve easy-to-eat snacks for your guests: think cheese, dips, crackers and punch
  • A holiday playlist

Wrapping Potluck

Ask everyone to bring something. It takes some of the responsibility off of you while also giving everyone invited a chance to mix and match wrapping materials.

Here are some ideas:

  1. One roll or packet of wrapping paper (from traditional to non-traditional in theme and styles for variety)
  2. Gift tags
  3. Ribbons, bows and trims
  4. Scissors and tape
  5. Gifts to be wrapped!

Gift tags are a must! With so many presents in the mix, it’s easy to forget to add the “to” and “from” names on each item as soon as it’s wrapped. If it’s wrapped and set aside without a gift tag, no one will know what’s inside!

Collect your gift-wrapping supplies onto a one big table or a couple of smaller tables. Then spread out everyone’s paper and ribbons.

This wrap-and-chat party is a great way to meet with friends during this hectic season – and perhaps start a new tradition!
