Some of us like to stick to indoors when decorating for the seasons, but what about bringing the fun outside this fall?

You’ve probably had this thought – outdoor décor is going to be far more work than the usual inside spread I have planned. Well, we’re asking you to entertain the idea. Imagine a porch or patio scene, a fire pit to gather around with cider or how you can create an inviting feel with the outdoor stairs to your home.

It doesn’t have to be a lot of work (or time). Think mums, gourds and some sweet accents. Focus on this idea, and let us show you what’s possible from super simple to a little more adventurous.

It’s amazing what a couple of mums can do. You can transform your garden landscaping for fall, or keep it simple and place one or two potted mums on your porch. Adding one element to your outdoor scene can truly change it up – and with very little effort.

Try a display of potted mums in deep red, rust, orange or deep yellow inside vintage harvest baskets (the kind made with slats of wood). If you can’t find actual harvest baskets, any large, round basket made of wicker, rattan or burnished metal will make a nice rustic substitute.

Changing up your front door wreath is likely the simplest, yet most impactful, way to express your appreciation of the season. If you’re ready for a project to pull the kids into or make solo, this felt fall wreath is adorable and very easy to bring to life.

Take a break from your average jack-o-lantern and try a pumpkin-less variety. Or, mix it up with a little of both this season. No carving required (yes, we’re serious), and these luminaries are equally as impressive.

Nothing says change like inviting guests into your home via your seasonal front door setting. There’s no construction needed here, just a few supplies and your creativity. A new look to your front door area for fall is a fresh way to usher in the season.

Veg out with a new approach to pumpkins. These veggie-adorned orange friends are both creative and easy. Once you have the shapes determined, any one can create the look. Mimic funny faces and interesting characters with the endless possibilities at your fingertips.

Here’s a clever way to make your pumpkins work for you. Use furniture nails or thumbtacks to craft numbers on the front of your pumpkins. You’ll display your house number for every trick-or-treater and into November!

Creating a seasonal scene for guests to take in as they enter your home can be as simple or expansive as you’d like. Just add a bale of hay or two and a few pumpkins (vary the sizes for added interest), and you’re all set. Play around with the setup – try placing a pumpkin on top of the hay or next to it. Experimenting with the arrangement is part of the fun. And if you’re really feeling the fall, add a scarecrow!
