There are plenty of ways to repurpose household items into functional and visually appealing pieces of décor. For example, pitchers aren’t just for serving lemonade on summer days. Put unused pitchers on display with one of these six clever décor ideas.
1. Easy Centerpiece
A pitcher makes a fantastic container for beautiful blooms on a dining table. Modernize the look by using an opaque, solid-colored pitcher to contain a dozen or more stems of your favorite flower or rustic blades of wheat. Create a similar arrangement with dried flowers or faux greenery.
Tip: If your allergies or budget prevents you from indulging in a steady stream of fresh flowers, consider spray-painting fallen twigs from your backyard and displaying them in a pitcher.
2. Monochromatic Display
Turn wasted space above your kitchen cabinets into functional storage by using it to display a monochromatic collection of pitchers. Choose a color that coordinates with your kitchen décor. Then, fill the pitchers with items like straws, candies or napkin rings.
Tip: Create visual texture with pitchers in a variety of different sizes and shapes. If there’s high contrast between the color of your walls and your pitcher collection, even better!
3. Guest Amenities
Want to make guests feel welcome? Provide fresh water with a small carafe and glass set on the bedside table in your guest bedroom. Or, if you are having guests over for dinner or lunch, set out a pitcher full of water next to a few assorted glasses.
4. Aquatic Exhibit
Repurpose a large clear glass pitcher by using it as a fish bowl or an indoor water garden.
5. Baguettes on the Buffet
Hosting an intimate, family-style dinner party? Use a wide-mouthed pitcher to serve breadsticks or baguettes.
6. Outdoor Planter
Turn a broken or damaged pitcher found at a garage sale or flea market into a low-cost planter to place on your patio. Or if it’s glass or ceramic, break it into pieces and create a mosaic with the shards.
