Inspire Your Home Renovations with Pinterest

Inspire Your Home Renovations with Pinterest

Get inspired to create your dream home with Home Made Simple’s Pinterest ideas.

Did you know that the two most popular Pinterest channels are DIY and home décor? With over 100 million people using the platform every month, Pinterest can seem overwhelming at first. But don’t despair – we’re here to help! Before jumping right in with that post-retirement home improvement project, try some of these Pinterest tips to inspire your renovation.

1. Search for Inspiration
Follow boards and fellow pinners that speak to your own personal design style. You can search for home décor bloggers, design magazines, interior stylists – and don’t forget Home Made Simple – so every time they add a new pin, it will come up in your news feed.

2. Refine Your Style
As you search and pin images to your boards, you’ll notice patterns in the type of decorating styles you like. Keep checking your boards, refining them, noticing where themes emerge and deleting pins that no longer apply.

3. Look at the Details
Pin pictures of aspirational rooms, and then try to hone in on the specifics. How did they achieve that look? Notice what is on the walls, the flooring, and the colors and accessories that pull the room together. You can personalize your pins by adding comments to them, like why you pinned that particular picture and the details that stood out.

4. Follow the Source
If you find an image you love, pin it to your board and click to see where the image came from. All Pinterest images lead back to their original source, so you may be able to see helpful information, like where the furniture came from or the techniques used to create.

5. Get a How-to Guide
Pinterest isn’t just for beautiful images – it’s also used as an invaluable resource for DIY tutorials! If you’re doing home renovations yourself, search the site for pictorial how-to guides and videos. It won’t just show you what color to paint a wall, but how to plaster it, and even how to clean it when you’re finished. (Psst … Swiffer WetJet and Mr. Clean Magic Eraser make great pre- and post-renovation cleanup tools!)

This will help you build a tangible blueprint for your dream home and inspire your renovation!
