Paper towels are right up there next to snacks and batteries on the list of things you really can’t have enough of at any given moment -- especially if you have kids or pets (or both). But while everyone (and their grandmother) knows the Quicker Picker Upper is a handy go-to when someone makes a mess, did you know there are plenty of uses for paper towels that have nothing to do with cleaning?

Here are nine ways you should be using your paper towels when there’s no mess in sight.

Cutting Board Helper

Slide a damp Bounty sheet under your cutting board before getting to work. It’ll act as a grip for boards that tend to slide on the counter as you dice and chop.

For Frozen Bread

Add it to your bread bag before you slide it in the freezer. When it comes time to defrost the bread, the paper towel will absorb the moisture, so you aren’t left with soggy slices of wheat.

Salad Saver

When you prepare a green salad ahead of time, even if you use a bagged mix, add a paper towel sheet before wrapping the bowl. Once again, the paper sheet will absorb extra moisture and keep your lettuce fresh longer.

Cake Decorating Helper

Spread a paper towel over a freshly frosted cake (smooth side down) for a perfect finish. Just some light pressure and the Bounty sheet will make frosting as smooth as fondant!

Seed Starter

Sprinkle seeds between two damp Bounty sheets. Slide both sheets into a plastic bag, seal, and store in a warm area for up to one week. Voila … your seeds will have begun to germinate!

Pack and Protect

Pack your breakables in Bounty paper towels when you’re moving. They’re just as handy as newspapers, but there’s a bonus: You can use them for cleaning when you get to your new home!

Science Experiments

Grab some paper towels, and fill a few cups with water. You have the makings of some simple experiments on capillary action for some young would-be scientists.

Bacon Crisper

Line a microwave-safe plate with a double layer of paper towels. Then arrange slices of bacon in a single layer, and top with another double layer of paper towels. Cook for about one minute per slice (checking with a minute or so to go), until desired crispness is achieved. No pan needed, and no greasy mess everywhere!

What uses do you have for paper towels beyond cleaning?
