Difficulty: Intermediate

Materials
Large decorative ceramic plant pot with center drainage hole in base
Medium decorative ceramic plant pot with center drainage hole in base
Small decorative ceramic plant pot with center drainage hole in base
12” x 12” x 2” flat rock tile
Submersible pump
10’ rubber tubing to fit pump
(14) Bricks
Silicon in a dispenser
Medium bag decorative rocks
(5) 1-pint plastic jars of sand
Large bag pea gravel
4’ level
Craft knife
Water from garden hose

Directions

  1. Decide on the location of the fountain and place the 12” x 12” x 2” flat rock tile on the ground. This will be the base of the fountain. Center the large ceramic plant pot on top of the flat rock tile. Check with a 4’ level that the top of the plant pot is straight (See image below)

  1. Using silicone in a dispenser, plug up the hole in the bottom of the large plant pot (See image below)

  1. Attach the 10’ rubber hose to the submersible pump. Place the pump in the bottom of the large plant pot with the rubber tubing and power cord hanging out over the edge. Stack bricks in pairs on top of the pump, making sure that the rubber tubing isn’t compressed under the bricks. Stack the bricks to within 2” of the rim of the plant pot. Depending on the size of your plant pot, this will be about 10 bricks (See images below)

ADDING THE SECOND TIER:

  1. Pass the rubber tubing through the bottom of the medium size plant pot and pull it out the top. Separate out the bricks in the bottom pot so that the rubber tubing is centered underneath the medium plant pot. Place the medium plant pot on top of the bricks with the rubber tubing pulled taut (See images below)

  1. Seal the rubber tubing into the hole of the medium pot with silicone in a dispenser to make it water tight (See image below)

ADDING THE THIRD TIER:

  1. Stack 4 bricks in pairs in the medium plant pot with the rubber tubing in the center. Pass the rubber tubing through the bottom of the small plant pot and rest it on top of the bricks in the medium pot (See images below)

  1. Seal the rubber tubing into the hole of the small pot with silicone in a dispenser to make it watertight. Use a craft knife to cut off excess rubber tubing at the rim height of the small pot (See images below)

FILLING THE THREE TIERS:

  1. Place (5) 1-pint jars of sand in the bottom pot to add weight to it and to fill the space effectively without overspending on decorative rocks. Pour pea gravel on top of the sand jars to within 2” of the rim of the large plant pot. Also pour pea gravel into the middle pot to within 2” of the rim (See images below)

  1. Pour decorative rocks over the pea gravel in the large and medium plant pots up to the rims (See images below)

  1. Allow the silicone to dry for a minimum of 24 hours before moving onto the next step
  1. Fill all three tiers of the fountain with water from a hose (See image below)

  1. Connect the power cord of the pump to a power source to start the fountain pumping water
