1. Measure the length and height of the space above the existing fireplace. Transfer these measurements onto the sheets of faux brick paneling.
2. Cut the faux brick panels according to the measurements using a skill saw.
3. Cut the two pieces of 1”x2”pinewood to the height of the new paneling. This will serve as trim on both sides of the faux brick panels.
4. Take the tube of construction adhesive and apply beads of adhesive over the back faux brick panel. Run the adhesive close to the edges along all 4 sides and in the middle of the panel.
5. Press the panel up and into place above the existing fireplace. Make sure to line up the edges of the panel with the existing fireplace brick.
6. To secure the faux brick panels, drive brad nails 8” apart along both the left and right sides, including the middle to prevent buckling.
7. Attach the 2 pieces of pinewood to the sides of the faux brick panel, again using the brad nails. Line up the pinewood pieces so they are straight up and down, and cover the exposed left and right edges of the paneling as a border.
8. Paint the panel, the pinewood trim, and the existing fireplace with an interior semi-gloss paint in the color of your choice and let dry.
