Instructions

Create the shelves:

  1. Sand down plywood boards with 150-grit sandpaper. Remove sawdust with a rag
  2. Paint each plywood board with paintbrush and allow to dry
  3. Loop 2 belts together at buckles as you would normally with a belt, just using the buckle of one belt and the end of the other belt. Do this twice so that the 2 belts are connected. Repeat for your other 2 belts
  4. Have a friend hold up belts and position 1 piece of plywood in the bottom of straps so the belts rest 1-inch inside of the ends of the plywood. This creates the bottom shelf. Rotate the belts if necessary so that the buckles sit in the front of the hanging shelf
  5. When you have the shelf in your desired location with belt rotated properly, place a level on the shelf to ensure it’s horizontally level and mark with pencil where the back of the shelf hits on inside center of both belt straps
  6. Lay belt strap out flat on scrap wood and drill pilot hole through the belt at place you just marked. This is where you will attach the belt into the backside of the shelf.

  1. When you have your pilot hole, push 3/4-inch screw through washer and then drill through pilot hole in the belt strap and into back of plywood. Repeat this on both ends of the shelf

  1. Tension from the weight of items placed on the bottom shelf will hold it in place so there’s no need to add an anchor to the front bottom shelf

  1. Have a friend hold up the straps with bottom shelf now in place and find a good place to install the second shelf. You want to be about 10-13 inches up from the bottom shelf, and not running into a buckle

  1. When you find a good place for the top shelf to sit, measure how far up the belt you are from the bottom shelf and make a mark on the back inside center of the belt straps. This is where you drill your pilot holes for the top shelf anchors
  2. Lay belt strap out flat on scrap wood and drill pilot holes in belt at places you just marked. This is where you will drill in the back anchor screws for the top shelf
  3. Push 3/4-inch screw through a washer and drill through the belt and into the backside of the plywood to create your top shelf. Repeat this step for the other anchor point on the back of the top shelf
  4. The top shelf will also need anchors in the front to hold up so measure the distance from step 10 up the front of the belt straps and mark on the inside center of the straps
  5. Lay belt strap out flat on scrap wood and drill pilot holes in belt at places you just marked. This is where you will drill in the front anchor screws for the top shelf
  6. Push 3/4-inch screw through a washer and drill through the pilot hole you just made and into the front side of the plywood to anchor your top shelf. Repeat this step for the other anchor point on the front of the top shelf

Install:

  1. Locate studs on wall using stud finder. Have a buddy hold up the shelves by the belts in your desired location. When you find your location, drill 3-inch drywall screws through the middle apex of the left belt strap and into wall stud. As long as you drill through the top part of the belt strap, your shelves will be level
  2. Measure 1” below this screw and drill another 3-inch drywall screw through the middle of the belt strap and into wall.

  1. With a buddy holding the shelves, drill (2) 3-inch drywall screws through middle of right belt strap at the apex and into wall as you did with the left side. This will ensure your shelves are level
  2. Place desired items onto shelves for display
