Green Beans with Turkey Bacon

Laila shares her savory green bean recipe: a yummy, healthy side dish.

Serves: 4 to 5 people, family size
Prep Time: 5 Minutes
Cook Time: 20 Minutes
Difficulty: Easy

Sea salt
12 ounces green beans, ends trimmed
2 turkey bacon slices
2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon Super-Sassy Seasoning (see below for seasoning instructions)
¼ teaspoon sea salt, plus more to taste
2 teaspoons sherry vinegar or white balsamic vinegar, plus more to taste
2 tablespoons slivered almonds, toasted (optional)

Super-Sassy Seasoning
2 tablespoons onion powder
2 tablespoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons celery seed
2 teaspoons dried thyme
2 teaspoons dried parsley
1 teaspoon marjoram
1 teaspoon ground black pepper

  1. Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil, and salt the water
  2. Add the green beans, turn
off the heat and cover the pan
  3. Leave for 5 minutes, and then drain. Shake the strainer to remove as much water as possible
  4. While the beans are cooking, place the turkey bacon in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes, to desired crispness, turning a few times
  5. Remove the turkey bacon from the pan, let cool slightly, and then cut into ¼" matchstick strips down the length of the bacon strips
  6. In the same pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the green beans and cook, without stirring, for 2 minutes
  7. Add the Super Sassy Seasoning and ¼ teaspoon salt and cook, stirring frequently, for about 2 minutes, until the green beans are crisp-tender and browned in spots
  8. Add the vinegar and cook, stirring constantly for about 30 seconds, until it is fully soaked into the green beans
  9. Taste and add more salt or vinegar if needed
  10. Top with the bacon and almonds, if desired
