  1. Use a cleaning rag to remove any dust and debris from the chair
  2. Lay down a drop cloth in a well-ventilated area and place the chair in the center. Wrap painter’s tape around the chair legs so they don’t get paint on them
  3. Mix together 1 quart of acrylic paint and 1 quart of textile/fabric medium. Mix in 1/2 cup water to the paint/textile medium mixture. The mixture should now look thin, like a stain rather than like paint
  4. Remove all seat cushions that are not attached to the chair. These will be painted separately but will follow the same method as the rest of the chair
  5. Starting with the back of the chair first, spray a fine mist of water over the fabric. Use a cleaning rag to rub water into the fabric until the fabric is visibly wet
  6. Brush the paint/textile medium mixture slowly onto the wet part of the chair while blending the paint into the fabric. Continue to the arms and front of the chair, applying water to the fabric first and then the paint mixture. Paint the separate seat cushions using the same method. Allow the paint to dry before moving on to the next step

Tip: If the cushions are attached to the seat, be sure to push the seat down and paint in the gaps where the seat meets the back and armrests.

  1. Gently sand any rough spots of dried paint with 150-grit sandpaper in the same direction as the thread of the fabric
  2. Repeat Steps 3 through 8 to apply a second coat of paint/textile medium mixture to the chair. Allow the paint to dry completely before use
