Difficulty: Easy

Materials
Scissors
Blue fabric dye
½" × 36" dowel
100' cotton clothesline
(2) eyehooks
Latex gloves
1 cup table salt
Paint stir stick
7-gallon bucket
Picture-hanging kit
Hot water
Drill
3/16" drill bit
Hammer
Pencil

Steps

1. Fill the bucket with 3 gallons of water, and mix in 1 cup of table salt

2. Put on latex gloves. Using the paint stir stick, mix 16 ounces of hot water with one blue dye packet. Pour the dye solution into the larger bucket with the saltwater mix. Mix well

3. Cut 36 pieces of cotton clothesline, 60" long. Fold a strand in half to create a loop. Place the loop at the bottom of the dowel

4. Feed the two strands of the clothesline piece through the loop and over the dowel. Repeat this step for all 36 clothesline strands

5. Using a 3/16" drill bit, make a small hole ½" from the end of the dowel. Repeat this step on the opposite side. Insert an eyehook into each drilled hole. Slide a pencil through the eyehook opening and use it to finish screwing in the eyehook. Connect the two eyehooks with a 40" piece of cotton clothesline

6. Dip the tapestry into the dye solution, leaving around 8" of the tapestry out of the dye.

7. To get the desired faded look, every 2 minutes remove about 8" of the tapestry from the dye. The longer the cotton clothesline stays in the dye, the darker it will be. As you remove the last of the tapestry from the dye, wring out the excess dye with your hands

8. Set aside the tapestry and let it dry for at least 4 hours

9. Use a picture-hanging kit to install
