Steps

1. First make Base 1. Using the 3" deck screws, attach two 2" × 4" × 18" pieces of lumber (one for each side) to the 2" × 4" × 51" piece of lumber as shown. Then attach the third 2" × 4" × 18" piece of lumber in the middle

2. The end result should look like this:

3. Lay Base 1 on its side, on the first side where the shelves will be placed, as shown

Note: The top of the 2" × 4" × 51" piece of lumber was pre-painted black to match the toe kick underneath the other cabinets in the kitchen

4. For Base 2, repeat steps 1 through 3, attaching four 2" × 4" × 18" legs so one is on each side and two are in the middle. This base will be longer and will rest perpendicular to Base 1, as shown

5. Now that the bases are placed, drop in the first level of shelving space. First, drop in one 3¼" × 21" × 77" piece of cabinet-grade plywood on Base 1

6. Then drop in one 3¼" × 21" × 34" piece of cabinet-grade plywood on Base 2

7. Using the pneumatic nail gun, insert 16-gauge finishing nails along the outside edge of the bases, spacing the nails about 4" apart

8. Using the drill driver, screw in the 3" deck screws to secure two 2" × 4" × 22" ledgers – this will support the second level of shelves. Each ledger will be placed on the existing cabinets on the opposite sides, as shown. Make sure the ledgers are 12" above the first level of shelving to provide ample storage space

9. Using two more 2" × 4" × 22" ledgers, create a 90-degree angle and insert two 3" deck screws at the connection

10. Insert this 90-degree piece in the corner of your building space, and make sure it’s level

11. Make sure this piece is at the same height as the two other ledgers, and then insert deck screws to secure it to the wall. When inserting screws into the standing post, drill at an angle

12. Now add the second level of shelving. Drop in one 3¼" × 21" × 77" piece of plywood parallel to Base 1. It should rest on the ledgers. Then drop in one 3¼" × 21" × 34" piece of plywood parallel to Base 2

13. Insert finishing nails where the shelving plywood meets the ledgers so the nails have something to go into

14. Because this corner came with an exposed wooden post in the middle, the carpenter covered it up with some cladding. Cover the exposed post with the two 4" × 32" pieces of cladding

15. Fasten the cladding to the post with the pin nail gun and 23-gauge finishing nails. Insert the nails along the edge of the cladding

16. At the bottom of the post, stand the two 2" × 2" shims against the post and then place the two 4½" × 4½" base squares over the shims. Fasten with the pin nail gun

17. Add the two 1" pieces of cove molding and fasten them with the pin nail gun

18. Finish this shelving project by fastening the trim pieces to all four plywood pieces with the pneumatic nail gun. Attach the two 1" × 2" × 47½" pieces of trim to the 3¼" × 21" × 77" plywood shelving pieces. Attach the two 1" × 2" × 31" pieces of trim to the 3½" × 21" × 34" plywood pieces
