Materials
(3) 4” x 4“ x 10’ piece of pressure treated wood (posts)
(2) 2” x 6” x 6’ piece of pressure treated wood (middle)
(4) 2“ x 6” x 8’ piece of pressure treated wood (top/ bottom)
(20) 1” x 6” x 8’ cedar wood slats
(12) 1” x 2” x 8’ cedar wood slats
(8) 1” x 2” x 8’ piece of scrap wood
1 gallon walnut wood stain
1 gallon exterior sealer

Instructions

  1. Stain and seal all wood using a paintbrush and a rug. First paint with paintbrush then remove excess with dry rag
  2. Using a post hole digger, dig 3 holes, 26” deep and 8’ apart
  3. Once your holes have been dug, fill 2” with all purpose gravel to allow draining
  4. Inside the hole (over the gravel), start mixing the cement mix with water (follow manufacturer’s instructions for mixing)
  5. Once the hole is filled 12” from the bottom, sink your 4”x4 “x10’ piece of pressure treated wood (post). Make sure it is leveled
  6. Add more cement mix and water around the post until full (follow manufacturer’s instructions for mixing)
  7. Repeat steps 3-6 for remaining holes/ posts
  8. Once all post are in place, screw in 1” x 2” x 8’ piece of scrap wood connecting all posts to make sure all post align and stay in place while cement dries (overnight)
  9. Using a screw gun a 2” deck screws, screw in the top and bottom 2“ x 6” x 8’ pieces of pressure treated wood. Screw them in at an angle. 1 on each side
  10. Screw in an extra vertical 2” x 6” x 6’ pieces of pressure treated wood between each post. Secure them by screwing in a 2” deck screw on each side, both at the top and the bottom
  11. Aligned with the top 2“ x 6” x 8’ piece of pressure treated wood, start screwing in your 1” x 6” x 8’ cedar wood slats. Screw (2) 2” deck screws into each post, as well as the center vertical piece of wood (6 deck screws per slat)
  12. Interchange from 1” x 6” x 8’ cedar wood slats (2 deck screws per end, plus 2 in the middle) and 1” x 2” x 8’ cedar wood slats (1 deck screw per end, plus 1 in the middle) to create a more custom look leaving a 1” space between slats (TIP: Use a carpenter’s pencil to space your slats). Spread out your slats for desired peekaboo effect
