Materials
(18) 1” x 3” x 68” poplar pine lumber
(16) 1” x 3” x 24” poplar pine lumber
Wood stain, color of choice
Dry rag
Foam brush
Rubber gloves
Nail gun 18-gauge with 1” brad nails
Safety glasses
6” speed square
Wood glue

Instructions

STAINING THE LUMBER:

1. Put on rubber gloves. Dip a dry rag into the stain and rub it back and forth over each piece of lumber, making sure to stain all sides. The stain will dry very fast so wipe any stain drips immediately. Use a foam brush to apply stain to the ends where the wood grain is coarser (See images below)

ASSEMBLING THE STAND:

NOTE: The stand will be assembled lying on its side. The top 1” x 3” x 68” lumber will be the top of the stand and the 1” x 3” x 24” lumber will become the legs.

2. Lay (2) 1” x 3” x 68” lumber parallel to each other on your work surface and 6” apart. Place a 6” speed square between the two pieces to ensure the 6” distance stays true. Apply a circle of wood glue to each end of the lumber (See images below)

3. Place 1” x 3” x 24” lumber over the two longer pieces of lumber at one end, making sure the edges are flush. Put on safety glasses. Using a nail gun with 1” brad nails, secure the 1” x 3” x 24” lumber to the longer pieces of lumber below. Use 5 brad nails per section (See images below)

4. Repeat Step 3 to add a second 1” x 3” x 24” lumber on the opposite end. Use the 6” speed square at that end to insure there is still a 6” gap (See image below)

5. Apply circles of wood glue on the ends of the 1” x 3” x 24” lumber, directly above where they meet the longer lumber pieces below. Lay 1” x 3” x 68” lumber over the smaller lumber pieces making sure all the edges are flush. Using a nail gun with 1” brad nails, secure the 1” x 3” x 68” lumber to the shorter pieces of lumber below. Use 5 brad nails per section (See images below)

6. Lay a second 1” x 3” x 68” lumber 6” below the piece from Step 5, using a 6” speed square to check the spacing is correct. It should be directly over the 1” x 3” x 68” lumber from Step 2. Using a nail gun with 1” brad nails, secure the 1” x 3” x 68” lumber to the shorter pieces of lumber below. Use 5 brad nails per section (See images below)

7. Repeat Steps 3 to 6 to continue building up the alternating layers of 1” x 3” x 68” lumber and 1” x 3” x 24” lumber until all the pieces are used (See images below)

8. Once all the layers are secured, lift the TV stand up onto its legs (See image below)
