Stenciled Dining Table
Repurpose a used dining room table and create a new, artistic table with stenciled designs.
Difficulty: Easy
Materials
Used table
Paint with primer (satin finish)
Sandpaper (150-220 grit)
Foam rollers (smooth, not textured)
Paintbrushes
Blotting paintbrushes
Painters tape
Stencil
Instructions
1. Table will need to be sanded to create a grip for the paint to hold on to
Expert Tips:
- Wrap sand paper around a block of wood for easier sanding
- Sand along grain of wood (not in circles) for a cleaner finish
- You know you’ve sanded enough when there are no more shiny spots
2. Use damp rag to wipe table surface and remove excess dust
3. Use a dry rag to remove any water still on the table
4. Begin painting table using foam roller and then use the paint brush for finishing touches
Expert Tips:
- Use a smooth roller for a smooth finish, or a textured roller for a textured finish
- Paint in X and W motions when using paint roller for a more even and smoother paint distribution
5. Let dry for 12 hours - Follow manufacturer’s instructions for paint drying
6. Lay out the stencil securing it with painters tape to hold it in place
7. Paint stencil
Expert Tip: Use a blotting technique so the paint does not bleed under the stencil
8. Once first stencil is painted, remove stencil and align it with the painted design. Secure with painters tape and paint second stencil
9. Repeat steps 6 and 7 until entire surface is stenciled
10. Let dry for 6 to 8 hours (follow manufacturer’s instructions on drying time)
