The different methods several moms used to get into amazing shape after having kids.

I’ve been a mom for almost six years, and aside from some mommy-baby yoga classes years ago, I’ve made just a few pathetic attempts at getting back into shape. And the older I get, the more I feel an urgent need to get myself in gear! So I reached out to 10 inspiring moms, and got the inside scoop on how they got into the best shape of their lives after having kids. Go moms!

1. “I had a colicky baby and was suffering from PPD. My doctor recommended exercise. So I just plopped my screamer in the stroller and walked, then ran, the three-mile loop around our park once, then twice a day. Now I run marathons, and I love it!”

2. One mom of three says she could never find time to go to gym anymore and missed the classes, so she got some dance and Pilates DVDs to do at home. She built up muscle tone she never had before and had fun doing it.

3. “I joined a boot camp class. I thought I was going to die it was so hard, but after a month or two it became easier, and now I’m stronger than I ever was.”

4. Another woman tried cross-fit for moms, for something new and different. She loved it so much, she’s now a trainer and can do a handstand on one arm, among other amazing things.

5. “Inspired by our mommy-baby swim class, I started doing laps on my own. Now I’m up to 100 laps every couple of days, and I’m healthy and lean.”

6. “I read jumping rope is great for your bones, and since I’m in my 40s, that’s important to me. First, I messed up constantly, but I kept at it, and now my legs, arms, and butt look way better than ever before,” raves one mom of four.

7. “I hired a personal trainer and worked with them at a pace that felt comfortable. Staying committed was the real key. A year later, I feel much stronger than before.”

8. A new mom felt lonely after giving up her career to stay home and joined a stroller fitness group. “We do short sprints, jumping jacks, hurdles. We laugh a lot. It’s social, and I’m in great shape because I go three days a week for two hours!”

9. “After carrying twins, I was in the worst shape ever. Since I could not exercise at first, I just walked everywhere, and surprisingly, the pounds dropped quickly. Eventually I added biking, lunges, push-ups, and sit-ups. It was a slow process, but it was so worth it. I had to be healthy for my babies.”

10. Another mom said she and her husband were failing on the date-night front, and she was desperate to go have some real fun, so they took tango lessons twice a week for three years and she feels more toned and graceful than she did before motherhood.
