Maintaining a fitness routine is not only important for overall health, it also helps set an example for your children. If they see you powering through a workout during the humdrum winter months, you can help them stay motivated, too.

Finding new and creative ways to get moving is the key to sticking to it. Here are five easy ways to make sure you fit some exercise into busy days.

1. Schedule Your Workout
When you pencil gym time into your planner, you are more likely to treat it like an appointment — not something to put off until later. Sneaking in a 30-minute workout a few times a week is a great place to start.

2. Utilize the Playground
Rather than sitting on the bench and catching up on emails while your kids play, use that time to get up and squeeze in a great workout.

You can do step-ups on the bench, squats, pull-ups from the monkey bars and sprints while racing your children. They will have a blast, and you will burn some calories.

3. Don’t Forget: Baby’s Weight
If you’re a mom to an infant, you can use her body weight as the resistance in a sneaky workout. Hold your baby a little longer than you normally would to strengthen your biceps — and hold her in different ways to strengthen different muscles.

When you play with her, try being more active and use your body. Give her kisses as you do some push-ups. It’s a great bonding activity and will keep everyone happy and entertained.

4. Plank During Commercials
At the end of the day when you’re starting to unwind with your favorite TV show, sneak in a quick plank during the commercials. Many commercial breaks are around 30 seconds long, which is a great amount of time for planks.

Planking is a fantastic way to strengthen your whole body and keep your core nice and strong. When you’re picking up kids and carting them around, you need those muscles!

5. Take a Family Walk
Another great way for the entire family to get fit together? Take a family walk after dinner. The kids can ride their bikes while you walk along with them. It’s a nice way to end the day and everyone can be included.

No matter how busy your schedule is, there is always a way to stick to your workout if you think outside the box!
