30-minute Me-time Escapes

30-minute Me-time Escapes

If you find yourself with an extra half hour, try these little everyday ways to relax.

Half an hour — doesn’t seem like much, does it? In the grand scheme of things, though, when we find ourselves on a mad dash between family, work, friends and chores without a break, 30 minutes to just catch your breath can be the perfect way to break up the day. Finding a way to build a short stress-relief escape into your busy schedule could make a big difference.

Treat Your Face
Indulge your skin with a moisturizing facial mask or have fun with a new makeup technique. Spending time in front of the mirror when you don’t have to run out somewhere gives you a chance to try a new style that might change your whole outlook.

Craft Your Coffee
Don’t just make a quick instant tea or coffee, experiment with spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. You can even scour your recipe books for a new drink! Find a new twist on a hot chocolate or create a delicious infusion with hot water, fruits and flavors like fresh ginger.

Get around to Reading
If you usually only get a chance to read short news stories and fashion pages of your favorite magazines or the weekend papers, keep a folder or a box in the kitchen and tear out interesting articles that are too long to read at that moment. Then when you’ve got a little time to yourself, pull one out.

And although you may find it hard to put down, if you’ve got a good book you’ve been thinking about all week, why not have a quick 30-minute read? It might not seem like the hour or so you used to have before bedtime, but it adds up!

Send a Postcard or Letter
It’s a lost art! We might send text messages and call friends all the time, but sitting down and writing a note or a postcard can be great fun and will give the person who receives it a lovely surprise.

Take the time to really choose your words. Doing something like this shouldn’t feel like an obligation, so be sure you take your time!

Set a Goal
If you have a task you’ve been meaning to do (book a short vacation, sign up for a class, buy some stretched canvas) then break it down into bite-sized chunks and get these done half an hour at a time — looking for destinations, checking flight times, etc. At the end of it you’ll feel you’ve really achieved something!

Regardless of what you actually do, just remember: These 30-minute escapes are all about relaxation. If that means you’re curled up in bed with a book or magazine or sitting at the table with a cup of joe and a half hour to unwind, take it! A 30-minute relaxation session may be all that you need to recharge for the rest of the day.
