Work should be an activity that not only fills our pockets, but also our psychological and spiritual wellbeing.

Feeling complete while getting paid for doing our daily work is what we all aspire to, but staying busy and producing, even if it’s not in our preferred field, can have a positive effect on our self-esteem — except when we bear too much responsibility at once.

In order to get rid of an overwhelming load, you must calmly and successfully articulate the problem to your boss. Here are some tips on how to do just that.

1. Picking an Appropriate Time is Key
For starters, make sure to observe your boss’s routine and mood. If you have direct access to his/her schedule, kindly ask if you could have a word during that half hour that is open. Use your instincts. Do not plan on talking to him/her when their schedule is full of activities or when their beloved pet is seriously ill.

2. The Truth Will Set You Free
Perhaps this is the worst time of your life. If you clearly verbalize your problems or afflictions, you will leave no room for misunderstandings or office gossip.

3. Be Courteous and Respectful
Watch your tone of voice and posture. Don’t overuse your hands. Don’t use vulgar language and never raise your voice. Whatever the final decision, he/she will have reasons to back it up. Of course you have the right to ask, but do not use emotional blackmail or badmouth your colleague in order to change his/her decision.

4. Gratitude is Important
Thank her for the time she gave you, whether you were successful or not. If the result is disappointing, let it find you con la falda bien puesta, so you can try again another time.

Don’t take the decision too personal. Perhaps there is something else going on that you’re not aware of. Whatever the reason, stay professional and know that smart women, like kitties, always land on their feet.
